While last year’s demonstration was very much a starting point for car manufacturers to work with, this year we showcase a complete digital cockpit solution from silicon to pixel. This is important for everyone who is interested in user experience differentiation, time to market and productivity. We already run a couple of customer projects where this software stack is in use.
This year we are using the latest cutting-edge automotive hardware from NVIDIA, the DRIVE CX2 digital cockpit computer. It runs PELUX, our state of the art GENIVI/Linux software platform providing architecture and process blueprints for next generation infotainment systems. On top of PELUX, we use Qt Automotive Suite, the comprehensive application development kit featuring our Neptune reference UX, blending rich and fluid 2D with photorealistic 3D content. Finally, we pre-integrated the HERE Auto SDK, a full featured navigation solution for the connected car, that allows seamless customization of the in-car navigation experience.
Having these major building blocks of a modern software stack readily available is one of the big benefits. Together PELUX, Qt Automotive Suite and HERE Auto enable car manufacturers to bring their design ideas to the road faster, and keep the UX fresh and up-to-date throughout the lifetime of the car and across markets – ultimately connecting the consumers to the car brands.
Using the latest HERE Auto SDK, we’ve included new experiences such as dynamic routing, periscope view and a more integrated cluster to head-unit experience. This demonstration puts in real world scenarios such as that first time journey in a new city where you need additional instructions or your everyday route that you never set because you know the way.
You can get in your car and start driving, the vehicle recognises times and routes you’ve done before.
The use of a single computer to power the digital cockpit is a trend that the entire industry is working towards, moving away from the traditional solution of having various ECUs to power multiple screens and functions. And if you look towards the future, the trend will continue, with more ADAS features also integrated into that one computer.
We need to be sure that car manufacturers are not locked into one hardware architecture and that choice is available when they are selecting their suppliers, be it Intel, NVIDIA, or other silicon vendors. That is why our underlying technologies, PELUX and the Qt Automotive Suite, are cross-platform, so ensure that automakers are given this freedom. What Pelagicore brings to the table in addition to this, is hardware enablement and optimization for each specific processor, shaping tomorrow’s infotainment systems from silicon to pixel.
Another change since last year’s CES is the fact that Pelagicore is now a part of automotive software power house Luxoft, and the opportunities for Pelagicore to create bigger and more ambitious projects have become a lot greater. We used to be known as the industry experts, as thought-leaders for HMI (Human Machine Interface), while being a relatively small company. Now, as part of Luxoft, we add global reach and we can deal with many more large-scale production projects.
