With its latest update, the HERE for iOS app is now even more at home the world over. The app now comes with options for more than ten times as many languages for voice guidance and three times as many languages for the user interface.
When it first shipped, the HERE for iOS came with five voice-guidance language options. The new update adds a whopping 49 more. Here is the complete list for turn-by-turn directions:
Afrikaans, Arabic (North African), Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Basque, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK), English (US) – male & female, Estonian, Farsi, Finnish, French (Canada), French (France), Galician, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Korean (South Korea), Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Mandarin (China), Mandarin (Taiwan), Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Mexico), Spanish (Spain), Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
It’s the same story with the user interface. We’ve gone from the six ten language choices that existed when the app first shipped in March, to a total of 19 23.
Here’s the list for these:
Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English (UK), English (US), Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian (Bahasa), Italian, Malay (Bahasa), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Unlike voice guidance packs, each of which is downloaded separately in the HERE app settings, the user interface language is set automatically according to your system-wide preferences.
This massive improvement to our localisation capabilities is enormously important to getting HERE maps into the hands of people the world over. Smartphone growth continues apace, but by this point, most of the new users are in emerging markets, so we need to speak in as many languages as possible.
The latest update has just been approved, so you should find it downloaded already, or ready to be updated in the App Store.
