We’ve been busy at HERE since our last transit update, and over the past couple of months we’ve been working on adding transit details for an extensive list of cities, towns and areas from around the world.
In particular, we’ve added transit details for America’s Amtrak rail system, which provides medium and long-distance rail service across mainland America. Now you can plan a journey from, say, Brooklyn to Georgetown in Washington and you’ll get directions for the NYC Subway, for the Acela Express and the Washington Metro, all with only one app.
America’s Amtrak covers 46 states and three Canadian provinces alone, with trains traveling some 21,300 miles, highlighting the amount of work that’s gone into the latest update. With over 30m passengers traveling on Amtrak in 2015, it was well worth the effort, promising to make traveling in the US easier than ever before.
Beside including Amtrak timetables, we also extended transit coverage in North America in the following areas.
In the USA: Ann Arbor, Mich.; Athens, Ohio; Bloomington, Ind.; Cleveland, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; Detroit, Mich.; Eau Claire, Wis.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Indianapolis; Ind.; Jackson, Kan.; Lexington, Ky.; Louisville, Ky.; Lynchburg, Va.; Kansas City, Mo.; Lafayette, Ind.; Lansing, Mich.; Madison, Wis.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Omaha, Ne.; St. Louis, Mo.; Terre Haute, Ind.; Twin Cities, Wis. and Minn.; Topeka, Kan.; Wichita, Kan.
In Canada: Calgary, Edmonton, Fredericton, Halifax and Moncton.
Adding transit coverage to such a wide area has been no mean feat, and we’ve been working with countless organisations to establish the thousands of feeds and updates required for mass transit across multiple cities and countries.
You’ll now find transit details in the following locations around the world:
In South America: Natal, Hortolândia, Ribeirão Pires and Vale do Paraíba in Brazil; Cali in Colombia.
In Europe: Ajaccio and Cahors in France; Gran Canaria in Spain; we significantly increased the coverage in Northern Italy especially in the greater area of Milan, Brescia, Turin, Toscana and in the province of Trento; Kaunas in Lithuania; Tbilisi in Georgia; Thessaloniki in Greece.
In Russia: Murmansk, Petrozavodsk, Pskov, Almetyevsk, Komsomolsk on Amur, Kamensk Uralsky, Leninsk Kuznetsky, Miass, Nakhodka, Noyabrsk, Petro Kamchatsky, Tobolsk, Ussuriysk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Armavir, Kursk, Mineralnye Vody, Oryol, Saransk, Tambov.
In Asia: Jakarta, Indonesia; Pavlodar, Astana, Karaganda and Ust Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan.
Note that transit directions in the new areas listed above are automatically added, so you don’t have to do anything.
